Starting in 2015, the new IRS filing for 1099 deadline was January 31, but I was not aware until recently. I submitted my final 1099 to IRS on February 28, 2016, for 2015 instead of by January 31...

Q. (cont.) Please advise what should I do at this point to avoid any penalty from IRS due to late submission.

A. The change to the filing deadline has not occurred yet.  It will apply to 1099s filed next year, reporting 2016 payments. This year’s deadline remained Feb. 29, so you filed on time.

On the AP & P2P Network, see Update: The Consolidated Appropriations Act and New Dates for 1099 Filing.
