Are there software providers that can assist with screening for fraudulent vendors? I'm looking for screening tools for healthcare organizations; we are in the higher education sector. We TIN match all our vendors with the IRS, but should we do more?

Vendor verification is very important to avoid fraud. Along with the TIN check, AP checks should include several additional items; see Vendor Due Diligence: Verifying New Vendor Legitimacy.

As for services to help, here is a short list from 2013. There are very likely other services; for example, we believe Equifax and Dunn & Bradstreet offer vendor validation services, including OFAC SDN checks.
