When an AP vendor's W-9 has a DBA listed, should it appear on the check that way? I noticed some forms have DBA and a few vendors using their SSNs as well, e.g. Jane Smith dba Smith Cleaning Services.

You may write the check to the DBA name, but on the 1099, it’s important that you have the individual’s name on the first line and the DBA on the second line. The IRS will look to match the TIN with the name on the first line – so those must match. But it is acceptable to put the DBA name on the checks.
