In Wasington State are Architectual Services taxable? We are remodeling our building and have hired an Architectual Firm to design it.

According to Washington Department of Revenue Information Officer Mark, architectural services are not subject to sales tax in Washington State. Although the finished product is a physical plan, Mark says that architectural services fall under the same tax rules as engineering services, which are also not subject to sales tax.

The only time architectural services are subject to sales tax are if the plans you purchase are pre-made (not custom) and available inside a catalog. Since you are hiring an architectural firm to design plans, you are paying for a non-sales taxable service.
