Are there federal regulations for payment terms for payments to freight carriers? If so, where would I find it?

At one time, freight payment terms were federally regulated under the ICC. This is no longer the case, however. Deregulation of the industry occurred in the 1970s and 1980s, and the ICC was abolished in 1995.

Today terms are negotiated into the contractual agreement between the carrier and the shipper. Often a default term will reference the carrier’s service guide, which may set terms at 7 or 14 days. But there are no longer federal regulations governing this.
