The IRS TIN Matching program requires that I enter my personal information when I register. I don't want to enter this information since I am registering for my employer.

The request for personal information has been a barrier for a lot of companies. The purpose of requesting the information is to verify that you are who you say you are. (Keep in mind that the IRS already has all the information on you that it is requesting.)

While it is uncomfortable to be offering personal information when your purpose in registering is a business purpose, the IRS wants to know who is accessing and using its online programs, and this information is a straightforward way for them to confirm who you are.

Because of the slow registration tied to this issue, the IRS has been made aware of people's reluctance. So far, however, we have not heard of any plan to change the requirement.
