If you are a Goverment Contractor do you have to use the per diem rates for hotel and meals? Can you just use the amount your company has placed in their policy?

Government contractors do not have to use the federal per diem rates for hotels and meal expenses. Per the information on the General Service Administration’s website, per diem rates only apply to full-time federal employees on business-related travel. You can find this in the “Frequently Asked Questions” section of the GSA’s Per Diem website. Information regarding contractors can be found under question 15: GSA Per Diem Website

Contractors generally negotiate a per diem rate or other expense reimbursement plan with the contracting government officer. So check your contract to see what is specified. There is no rule requiring the federal employee rate to apply to contractors.
